COLLEEN VANDERHOEF

The Sunshine Gallery, NY

Colleen received her Masters degree in Art Education/Museum-Gallery Administration at New York University. While there she interned at the Metropolitan Museum of Art education department and the Children's Book Illustrators' Conference at Pratt Institute, NYC. She studied abroad from NYC, to Venice Italy, and Paris, France. During 1980's broadening her experience by working at the "Pop Shop" as assistant manager and "Leo Castelli Gallery" as an assistant book keeper. She also served as the Vice President at the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack, NY. and program coordinator for the Arts Council of Rockland & Art in Public Places Committee.

Colleen began working as a professional Artist/Certified Art Teacher in New York since the 1990’s. She has taught in a variety of creative venues; a public school Art Educator for almost 30 years, community mural paintings, adjuct college level teaching watercolor painting, and clay teacher at a community art center.  Creating sculpture in paper mache', basket weaving, jewelry making, color theory and watercolor are just a few of the arts experiences she shares with her students. Ceramics is one of her favorite mediums and has been showcased in many exhibitions. Her 'Sunshine Gallery' was established to share works of art, exhibits, arts events, and art classes. Expressing though art, she has gone through many phases over the years resulting in a highly personal approach and perspective. She is never content with standing still and is always looking for her next engaging project. She currently creates in her personal Adirondack Art Studio, serves on the 'Gallery Committee' for the Arts Council of Rockland, teaches Art in the NY public school system, and teaches clay workshops at both Rockland Center for the Arts, West Nyack, NY, the Adirondack Folk School, Lake Luzerne, NY., and The Art School at Old Church, Closter, NJ.

Colleen creates her one of a kind artwork from functional to sculptural, wheel thrown and hand-built, hand cut and hand painted glazed. Each piece with the intent of perfection for its purpose.
